Frequently Asked Questions - Covid 19

  1. Building Hours During Cancellation (open for phone calls and emails, visitors by appointment only)
    1. All Educational Centers Tuesday and Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
    2. District Office, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  2. Will we still have Prom?
    1. At this time the CDC is recommending no gathering of more than 50 people for the next 8 weeks. Because prom would include more than 50 students and the students would not have access to the facility to prepare for prom, we are postponing the event. At this time, we are working to find an alternative date for prom in May or June. We will continue to follow CDC recommendations.
  3. Will we still have Graduation?
    1. Graduation is scheduled for Sunday, May 17, 2020. At this time, we are still planning on holding the event as planned/scheduled. If the recommendation from IDPH, DCD, and/or Governor's office limits group size during this timeframe, we will consider an alternative option for graduation. As of now, the plan is to continue with graduation as scheduled.
  4. Will food still be served?
    1. We will be offering meals to all students during school cancellations due to Covid-19. The food service team will be making sack lunches weekly on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Sites for food pick up include the following: Birmingham, Stockport, Milton, Cantril, Hillsboro, Farmington, Bonaparte, Keosauqua and Douds. The meals will arrive between 11:00 and 11:15 starting Friday, March 20. Specific locations can be found on our website and Facebook page. The summer meal locations are where we will meet families.
  5. Personal belongings left at school? How do we get them?
    1. Yes, the building offices will be open Thursday, March 19 and Tuesday, March 24 from 8-1:00 p.m. or by appointment. Please contact building secretaries on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to schedule an appointment.
    2. Middle school students if you need a chrome book, you can pick one up at the school at the above mentioned times and dates by appointment.
  6. My child has medication at school that they need. How do I get it?
    1. Our nurses are currently in the process of connecting with families that we know are in this situation. If you have not heard from the nurse, please contact the building secretary.
  7. Will we have to make up the school days missed?
    1. At this time, legislation has been passed to waive days cancelled from Monday, March 16 through Friday, April 10.
  8. Will there be practices before and after school?
    1. At this time we are cancelling all activities indefinitely per Iowa Unified Activities guidance.
  9. How long will school be cancelled?
    1. The Van Buren County Community School District is following the Governor's recommendation and closing for 4 weeks.
      1. Week #1 - March 16-20
      2. Week #2 - March 23-27
      3. Week #3 - March 30-April 3
      4. Week #4 - April 6-10
      5. As of today, we are planning on resuming a regular school schedule on Monday, April 13, 2020.
  10. Will we still have Parent-Teacher Conferences?
    1. Parent-Teacher Conferences have been cancelled for this spring.
  11. Will counseling services be available during the school closure?
    1. Yes, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. by phone.
    2. Please call the building office to connect with a counselor.
    3. If you have previously had appointments with R & R Counselors, please call their office to set up an appointment at 641-455-0636 or 641-919-3465.
  12. What educational resources will students and families get?
    1. The administration and teaching staff are putting together a resource for parents and students to utilize during this cancellation. This will include the standards that would have been taught during this time as well as links to helpful resources. This will be shared no later than Friday, March 20.
  13. Will there be summer drivers education?
    1. Yes. We are working out the details, but the plan is to have a summer session.
